Skating 101

Back when I was home with Matt one day during his days of off and on fevers and just plain nasty colds, Matt broke out the hockey skates and wore them around the house for the majority of the day. He took them off long enough to take a nap and run to the school to pick up Megan. So Bill decided that it was time to take him to Hamden's public skating to see how he would make out on the ice.
Well we already knew he would do well on the rubber mat area (see the picture above) where skates are put on because he was running and jumping on the carpet in our TV room. (Megan wanted absolutely nothing to do with it, despite the fact that my mother-in-law had come with some nice white figure skates just for her. She was content to watch and drink hot chocolate.) But the following pictures show just how well he did on the ice and the best part of it all - he was so happy to be doing it!

Stepping out onto the ice for the first time

Happy as can be - and not holding on!

Nikole - trying to help, brought out the "walker". Matt's response: Get it away!

1 second before falling down

Ending on a high note!
